Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Willaims inspired two whole countries when they flew into space. Cynics played the whole issue down by saying that they were not really Indian anymore and blah blah blah, but the point remains that these women worked hard and made their dreams of being in space come true!
Shawna Pandya, an Indian-origin woman will become the third woman after Kalpana and Sunita to go into space in 2018.
She is a neurosurgeon and qualified to fly for NASA for space missions and was one of the only two candidates selected from a pool of 3200 brilliant people to fly into space through the Citizen Science Astronaut programme in Canada.
She is supremely talented and hardworking! Shawna is a neurosurgeon, an international Taekwon-Do champion, opera singer, author, and has even learned Muay Thai from a Navy SEAL!
And she’s just 32 years old! How does she do it?
“IF YOU PRIORITISE YOUR PASSIONS AND COMMITMENTS, IT’S WONDERFUL HOW MUCH YOU CAN ACHIEVE.”
She is currently in Mumbai to meet her family and is giving motivational lectures all over in hospitals and schools.
She also believes there is a tremendous potential in Indian people to achieve greatness.
“All we need is to get acquainted with everyday developments in science, be resilient and always try to achieve something bigger.”
Inspirational words, Shawna!
